Fairview Aces Inducted into Maritime Hall of Fame

2016-06-24

The Fairview Aces senior men’s volleyball team of the 1950s and ’60s earned their spot in the Maritime Hall of Fame on June 22.

The team racked up an impressive string of titles, winning 8 Maritime championships from 1954 to 1965. During this time the team also won the Halifax and Dartmouth championship eight consecutive times and captured three provincial titles.

“Unfortunately, six of our really good players are up above, playing on a new team,” said former Fairview Aces player Dave Fraser, referring to his former teammates who’ve passed away.

The team was made up of teachers, physicians, engineers, and businessmen from all walks of life. They were tremendous role models, setting high standards for themselves and helping to develop volleyball in Nova Scotia as well as the Maritimes.

“It is truly special to recognize these outstanding individuals who were so instrumental in the growth of volleyball in our province. I truly believe that without the Aces, volleyball would not be as popular as it is today in Nova Scotia.” - Jason Trepanier, VNS Executive Director
