2017 Howard Jackson Bursary Recipients Announced!

We are please announced the winners of the 2017 Howard Jackson Bursaries, Hannah Duncan and Kobe Shannon!

Hannah graduated from JL Ilsely High School with High Honors and is in her first year at Saint Mary’s University studying for a Bachelor of Science. Hannah started her playing career in Junior High, then on to high school and with the Tigers Club program. She currently plays for the SMU varsity team along with being a level 1 official. She was also one of the organizers for WE day conference and volunteers at a Seniors Home.
 
Kobe Shannon graduate from Citadel High School with Honours and is continuing his education at Dalhousie University pursuing an Engineering degree. You could say the Kobe started playing as soon as he could walk. He’s played Junior High, High School, Tigers Club, VNS Elite Teams and is a member of Volleyball Canada Centre of Excellence for the past 2 years and is a member of the Dal Men’s team. He is also a Level 1 official and pursuing his Level 2. In his spare time he volunteers with camps at The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and HRM Recreation.
 
Congratulations to both of these two deserving winners.

The Nova Scotia Volleyball Officials Association created the Howard Jackson Memorial Bursary, in memory of Howard Jackson a long time Volleyball Official, Coach, and Volunteer who passed away suddenly in December 2010. Its purpose is to promote, encourage and sponsor young volleyball officials and players who are currently pursuing post-secondary education in Nova Scotia.

Financial assistance is available to students currently attending a recognized Nova Scotia University or College. The Howard Jackson Memorial Bursary awards two $1,000 bursaries each year to one male and one female each year. The Nova Scotia Volleyball Officials Association raise money for the bursary by donating their time/fees during the Super Series Weekend.
 
Howard Jackson Memorial Bursaries are awarded based on the following:
•             Volleyball Official, Player
•             Financial need
•             Community and volunteer involvement
•             GPA of 75% or above
